AWRA-L model

The Bureau of Meteorology (BOM) operated Australian Water Resources Assessment Landscape model (AWRA-L) provides water balance outputs including precipitation, runoff, evapotransipration and soil moisture at a national scale. AWRA-L model outputs are used across disciplines to inform management and risk.

BOM flood warning system

The flood warning system for the Gilbert River catchment combines reports when pre-determined flood heights are exceeded and several automatic telemetry stations. Information about past floods is also available.

BOM Weather Stations

The Bureau of Meteorology (BOM) operates weather stations throughout Australia that measure climate variable such as rainfall, temperature and evaporation. Several stations are actively taking measurements around the Georgetown area.

Proposed Green Hills dam detailed business case

As a result of continued discussion of a dam at Green Hills station and the economic and social problems observed by the Etheridge Shire Council, a deatiled buisness case was commissioned. The detailed business case investigated the proposed dam in an overarching way, providing recommendations on how to progress.

The eWater Source model is used by the Queensland government to support the state's Water Plans including the Water Plan (Gulf) 2007 in the Gilbert catchment.

Geophysics

Remotely sensed data that gives insight into soil, groundwater and geology in the surveyed regions. Sampling along the Gilbert River in the GRAP area during the CSIRO's FGARA project suggested that groundwater in the bed sands is of good quality (i.e., low salinity).

Northern Australia Water Resource Assessment (NAWRA)

CSIRO's Northern Australia Water Resource Assessment (NAWRA) focused on three catchments throughout Northern Australia, detailing water capture and storage option to support agriculture as well as land suitability. The Gilbert catchment was not included in the assessment, however, the nearby Mitchell catchment was.

Watercourse lines represent areas whcih water can flow through, either permanently or on an ephemeral basis. Watercourse lines have policy implications, for taking water, constructing waterway barriers and vegetation management.
